The Fetichegram is the original creation of Steve DT and they are the abstract images
of sex toys in imaginary surroundings. As the light illuminates these lines of desire
- shapes take form and disappear within the shadows. The objects maybe instruments
of desire, of play and/or of pain, but in the half light, everything is not always
what it seems.
The Fetichegrams doff their collective top hat to those early 20th century pioneers,
the Surrealists. Fetichegrams are part of the collective thought and their rallying
call taps in to the memories of lustful thoughts, carnal knowledge, and promises
of more carnal erotic times ahead.
“Surrealism with eroticism has captivated me for quite some time. This led me to
the thirst quenching creation of the Fetichegram.” - Steve DT
Series 1 was originally created as an art gallery page for sdtfoto.com. How ever
these images subsequently aroused the interests of certain parties in the USA, which
in turn led to several of the images being published in Contours magazine. And then
came an exhibition of Series 2 in Atlanta for the same interested parties.
Series 1 and 2 were both produced with non-camera techniques, and are therefore are
completely one-off original prints. The images can be recreated but they will not
be identical, thanks to the manual positioning of each of the objects, the quality
and intensity of the lighting and the
Series 3 is currently being created. For this series, there has been another change
thrown into the mix, although it still is a non-camera technique. This series has
been a long time in the works, as the ideas and the methods continued to change,
in search for the ideal progression for the Fetichegrams.
It is expected that some examples of the new series will be online here, at some
point in late 2012. Later I’m hoping to have an exhibition organised for the series,
and much later, it will be eventually published in print.
Series 4 is already in the thought processing department. This series will delve
back even further into photography’s former chemical past. Erotic sex toys imaginatively
reproduced.
emotive manual print toning. The individual toning each print receives will eat into
the photographic paper at different rates in different places to leave its own imprint
on the final image.
